Mixed Media Monday With Leah Cornelius

Today Leah Joins us for a mixed media project, using salt!  Yes you heard right salt…….to create this stippled mixed media background with watercolours.MixedMediaBy Leah Cornelius

Leah said when we gave her this project, “Creating with mixed media is so much fun! I combined two of my favorites, watercolor and Chameleon Color Tone Pens”.

Materials Used:-  Chameleon Tones Deluxe Set: Summer Sun (YL2), Seville Orange (OR4), Grass Green (GR3) and Purple Grape (PR4), Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Wplus9 Flora and Fauna 1, Wplus9 Banner Love, Recollections white cardstock, Gansi Tambi watercolors, salt, sequins

  1. Take a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of watercolor paper and watercolor the entire thing. While it is still wet sprinkle salt onto to it. Set it aside to dry completely.

  1. Stamp the image with Memento Black ink onto white cardstock and begin coloring the butterfly. Using Summer Sun and the brush nib, infuse for 5 seconds and color parts of the wing. Then use Seville Orange and the brush nib, infuse for 5 seconds and color the remaining parts of the wing, blending over the Summer Sun color.

  1. Using the brush nib and the Grass Green pen, infuse for 10 seconds and begin coloring the leaves, starting with the tips of the leaves and coloring toward the stems. Continue for all leaves and stems.

  1. To color the flowers, using the bush nib and Purple Grape, infuse for 15 seconds for the large flowers and 10 seconds for the smaller flowers. Begin at the outside edge of the petals coloring toward the center of the flower.MixedMedia6
  • Using Summer Sun color the center of the flower with pure color using the brush nib.MixedMedia7
  •  To complete the card, gently rub the salt off the dried watercolor panel and stamp the sentiment. Fussy cut the stamped image and adhere to the watercolor and salt background panel. Attach the panel to a white card base and adhere a few sequins.MixedMedia8

What a cool effect, just remember next time you are asked to pass the salt at the dinner table, don’t pass the watercolors at the same time, you might get some strange looks!

It would be great if you could give us a copy of the stamped picture so we could color with you.
Please consider this next time. Thanks

Hi Judy thanks for your comment, as you can imagine our team use designs from many different stamp companies and as we don’t own the rights to these images we are not able to give you a free download to practice with. However we don’t want to disappoint and we already give free digital downloads, so if you sign up for our monthly newsletter you will get a free image to download each month and a video tutorial showing how to colour it. You can even download the images from previous months too!
